MISSION :
To establish and provide a legitimate community resource and leadership committee for articulating the specific and realistic needs and concerns of the Northern California African American Transgender community.
GOALS:
- To work with established community-based organizations, service providers, mental, psychological and physical healthcare professionals in defining, implementing and assessing appropriate Transgender-specific service interventions.
- To work collectively in developing a unified and inclusive system of service delivery for African American youth and adults who self-identify as Transgender.
- To work closely with the Alameda County Office of AIDS Administration in developing, sponsoring, implementing and enforcing ethical policies for Transgender-specific inclusion in future funding, services and programmatic decisions around HIV/AIDS and STDs.
- To fully and collectively utilize the expertise, background and knowledge of each member of the TG Steering Committee in developing and presenting appropriate recommendations to local and surrounding area health jurisdictions; in all matters that directly impact the lives of African American TG persons living in Alameda and other area Counties (i.e., San Francisco, Contra Costa, et al).
- To provide appropriate African American Transgender representation on all local community boards, councils, and task forces.
- To acquire 501(c)(3) nonprofit status for the organization and its operations.
- To pursue and seek various funding sources to secure permanent/ongoing operations.
- Finally, the TG Steering Committee will establish and maintain itself as a professional, ethical, and reliable community resource for promoting a truly inclusive, sensitive, and uniform process for all African American-specific TG services within our local health jurisdiction.
COMMITTEE ADMINISTRATION:
The Alameda County Transgender Steering Committee (ACTSC) will serve as an advisory committee, in partnership with other local public service providers. The committee will be comprised of various TG (MTF and FTM) identified members who either live and/or work in Alameda, San Francisco and/or Contra Costa counties.
